ECS Optimized Rocky Linux 8.5 - Getting Started

Documentation 02 May 2022

This documentation is provided as a quick start guide to our AWS MarketPlace Clients.

Quick Start:

Start up your ec2 instance using our specially baked image above. Once the instance has started and passed EC2 health checks, you are ready to go.

Start by;

  1. The easiest way to start off this image is to pass on the cluster to ecs.config file like this using meta data during server configuration

     #!/bin/bash
     echo ECS_CLUSTER=clusterName >> /etc/ecs/ecs.config

More advanced way if above is too simple

  1. Open file /etc/ecs/ecs.config and add your ECS Cluster Name here - “ECS_CLUSTER=”

Example ECS_CLUSTER=default

Your /etc/ecs/ecs.config would look like this;

ECS_DATADIR=/data
ECS_ENABLE_TASK_IAM_ROLE=true
ECS_ENABLE_TASK_IAM_ROLE_NETWORK_HOST=true
ECS_LOGFILE=/log/ecs-agent.log
ECS_AVAILABLE_LOGGING_DRIVERS=["json-file","awslogs"]
ECS_LOGLEVEL=info
ECS_CLUSTER=default
  1. Restart ecs agent

     systemctl restart ecs.service

  2. If you need to look at the logs

     /var/log/ecs/ecs-agent.log

  3. Have fun!
